A Thing of Beauty – Seasonal Designs by Del
My name is Del Clarkson. I joined my husband’s specialty fruit market in Pickering in 1999 with a vision to add a garden centre to his already successful business. As our two boys grew, my availability and ambition to expand the business grew as well.
We started with a few plants, some planters and a desire to service our wonderful customers. With each passing garden centre season our inventory expanded to include planters, urns, hanging baskets and window boxes. Customers asked for more unique and specialized plantings. Everything was growing! During the off season, I spent time preparing for the upcoming season, talking to our growers, discussing trends in plant varieties and colours, doing research, and taking courses.
Greenhouses went up on the property and our spring garden centre expanded to encompass early spring bulbs and plantings for Easter/Passover, bright summer baskets and planters, fall arrangements of mums, cabbage and kale, winter/Christmas arrangements and custom designs of all shapes and sizes. Custom orders for special occasions and fund raising were all part of the services we offered. Our customers were thrilled with the quality and service they were provided with. No customer order was too small and no request too large, everything was handled as if it was for our own home.

Looking forward to turning your vision into “A Thing of Beauty!”
My passion for gardening and designing beautiful looks for all to enjoy was fostered by my father, an incredible man that I admired as a pillar of all things family. Always happy, smiling and joking, his standard response when asked how he was doing was simply, just A Thing of Beauty.
Combining my experience with seasonal design and plantings and my passion for home and family, A Thing of Beauty was born.
We very much look forward to meeting you and creating a seasonal look that makes your home or business, A Thing of Beauty.

We have had the pleasure of dealing with Stewart and Del for the past 13+ years. We were new to Durham and noticed their store. We decided to stop in. It was one of the best decisions we ever made. Del’s attention to detail, along with her knowledge and stellar customer service, paired with the quality of product is the reason why we have not gone elsewhere since for our hanging baskets and planters for every season.
I have done business with Del for over 10 years. Every May I purchase 12 baskets for my front porch. She always makes sure they all match and compliment my home. They are always gorgeous and colourful all summer. One year I encountered a problem with 3 of my baskets. I spoke to Del and she instantly had suggestions and a solution for me.
